Biography
Dr. Ndakor Enow's career in healthcare spans nursing, public health, and medicine, with clinical experience across multiple healthcare systems in Cameroon and the United States. She began her professional journey in Cameroon, earning a Higher Professional Diploma (HPD) in Nursing from St. Louis Higher Institute of Health, a B.Sc in Nursing and an M.Sc in Epidemiology from the University of Buea.
After relocating to the United States, Dr. Enow built an extensive nursing career caring for medically complex patients in several major healthcare institutions. Her nursing experience included MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., Johns Hopkins-affiliated facilities in Bethesda, Sibley Memorial Hospital, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Much of her work was in telemetry and acute-care settings, where she cared for patients with complex cardiovascular and medical conditions requiring close monitoring and multidisciplinary management. She also practiced as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, caring for acutely ill patients during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare. These experiences strengthened her clinical judgment and exposed her to the profound intersection between serious medical illness, psychological distress, families, and the healthcare system.
Her years at the bedside ultimately influenced her decision to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Enow earned her M.D. degree from Columbus Central University in 2023 and subsequently began General Adult Psychiatry Residency at ECU Health Medical Center/East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She currently serves as a PGY-4 psychiatry resident and Chief Medical Resident.
Her clinical interests include reproductive and perinatal psychiatry, women's mental health, mood and anxiety disorders, addiction psychiatry, and culturally responsive mental healthcare. Her progression from nurse to epidemiologist and physician gives her a distinctive perspective on patient care, combining years of bedside experience with public health training and psychiatric medicine. She remains committed to compassionate, whole-person care, medical education, and improving access to high-quality mental healthcare in diverse and underserved communities.
